A Japanese man claims his ‘child sex dolls’ will stop paedophiles from abusing children but experts aren’t so sure. Shin Takagi – a self-confessed paedophile says he has never acted on his impulses but he wanted to build something to keep his urges under control. Takagi founded Trottla – a company that builds life-like and anatomically correct child sex dolls and he believes there is no way to change someone’s ‘fetishes’.
He feels that the dolls – some of which imitate girls as young as five – could be used alongside other treatments like chemical castration and cognitive behavioural therapy to manage paedophiles’ urges.
However, there is no scientific research to support his claims and experts worry that the dolls could actually have the exact opposite effect. Peter Fagan, a paraphilia researcher from the John Hopkins School of Medicine, warned the Trottla dolls could have a ‘reinforcing effect’ on paedophilic desires.
His conclusion was based on people who had already offended, rather than non-offenders but he still feels they could even heighten desires causing them to be acted upon with ‘greater urgency’. He said: For some paedophiles, access to artificial child pornography or to child sex dolls could be a safer outlet for their sexual urges, reducing the likelihood that they would seek out child pornography or sex with real children.
