Sex workers, commonly known as prostitutes, have taken things a little higher somewhere in Delta state, where reports have it that they locked up some of their patrons, for failing to pay them after ‘working’.
According to reports, some commercial sex workers took their customers by surprise when they held them hostage for refusing to pay them for the services they rendered.
The prostitutes who reportedly operate out of a brothel around the state ministry of information, Summit road, in the Asaba capital of Delta state, had reached an agreement on a specific amount for their services, ranging from N3,000 for one round of sex, to N7,000 – N8,000 for ’till day break’.
Trouble reportedly started brewing when the clients pressured the prostitutes into having sex with them for a deposit of N2,000, with promises of complete payment after the session.
The prostitutes accepted the deal, after issuing a warning that the men would be in trouble should they fail to hold up their end of the deal. According to one of the prostitutes, Silver Ogieriakhi, the men didn’t pay up as agreed, prompting them to take the decision to lock them up.
Here’s what she was quoted as saying: “We manhandled the men and detained them when they tried to prove logic for us.” The Manager of the brothel, one Mr Chinedu Emeka, while confirming the incident said, “The victims confessed that they were married men who wanted fun and were having insufficient funds to make up, instead of begging our workers, they resorted to a shouting match with them and they were detained in their rooms before a good Samaritan paid for them.”
According to sources, the brothel which doubles as a guest house, has been raided countless times, by the division ‘A’ police station in Asaba, leading to the arrest of several prostitutes. The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman, reportedly said “We are raiding many of the brothels soon because people with questionable minds are their patrons, we will bring them to book as part of our strategies to rid the state of criminally minded persons.”
