If the suggestions by the Lagos state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) are anything to go by, ex-president Goodluck Jonathan may be prosecuted by President Muhammadu Buhari over fraud in his administration.
The Punch reports that the chairman of Lagos CAN, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, who made this disclosure on Saturday after an interdenominational service, applauded the ongoing anti-corruption move by President Buhari, stating that nobody should be scared.
“What is wrong with it? A former President of Peru (Alberto Fujimori) was jailed. Also, a popular prime minister of Israel (Ehud Olmert) was jailed. If a nation puts you in a position of trust and you betray that trust, you should go to jail no matter who you are.
“I have no sympathy for anybody. Just make sure you get it right, and we get the facts right as well,” he proffered when asked what his stance was on the call for the prosecution of Jonathan.
While lamenting the spate of corruption in the country, Apostle Bamgbola stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration must go after the looters, adding that he should “put them where they belong, so that we may have peace in this nation.”
This refreshed call for the prosecution of Jonathan may have come on the heels of the recent revelations by the former president’s former Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe, who was recently arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Colonel Adegbe revealed that another Dasukigate may be looming if he speaks out on the events of the last administration.
Before being flown to Abuja last week, it was gathered that preliminary interrogation of the former ADC by operatives of the EFCC showed that a new can of worms, which “could surpass what is now called Dasukigate,” would be opened up.
