It was the end of banditry for three young thieves who specialised in vandalising and stealing electricity cables from transformers in Umuahia, Abia state.
At around 1.00am today, they were caught in the process of loosening and removing armored cables attached to an electricity transformer around Udi Street, off Uzokali road, Umuahia.
Neighbourhood residents descended on them and gave them the beating of their short lives before stripping them naked and tying them to the metal frames on the transformer.
There they remained tied, their private parts exposed to the jeering gazes of old, young, men, women and children alike until the police came and took them away. We are not too sure if they were taken away naked or if the policemen had pity on them and covered their already shredded modesty.
