A woman in Italy has given birth to her first child at the age of 61. Maria Rosaria Veneruso delivered a healthy boy on Monday afternoon after a 'normal and peaceful' pregnancy, according to local reports.

Ms Veneruso and her husband Enzo were delighted with their new born baby boy, who weighed 7lb 7oz (3.7 kg) and they named Elia Francesco.

He was born hospital in the Castel Volturno commune in the Campania region in the south-western part of Italy.
'I have fulfilled my dream,' she told local media. 'The future does not scare me.'
