Daily Trust reports that a middle aged woman, Gladys Onus and her two sons have been arrested for alleged involvement in armed robbery.
The suspects were arrested in Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos state and the Lagos state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni who paraded the woman, informed newsmen that the trio were nabbed after intelligence network around their area.
The suspects were among the 20 armed robbery suspects arrested by the police recently with the police chief adding that Onus, alongside her children who claimed to be undergraduates, were arrested for allegedly running a robbery syndicate.
“The Command wishes to inform members of the public of a family syndicate who specialises in robbing unsuspecting ladies. Members of the syndicate posed as workers and offer to help ladies who have closed from work.
“They, thereafter, rob them of their valuables. After painstaking intelligence, the suspects were arrested at their hideout in Aguda, Surulere,” the commissioner said.
Chinedu Onunkwo, one of the suspect’s children, told journalists that their family “is not a family of robbers. The car the police are talking about is for our mother but we are not involved in the robbery. I think it was a set-up by those who don’t like us.”
Recently, members of a child trafficking syndicate who confessed to have sold babies for as high as N250, 000 and issue receipts after such sales, were arrested by police officers in Delta state.
