Nkiruka ‘Kiki’ Omeili is a medical doctor turned actress/ TV presenter and she has shared her thoughts on reasons she had to switch to the entertainment industry.
Having read Medicine and graduated from the University of Lagos in 2006, she practiced for a bit and then went right ahead into her favourite field.
This comes as a surprise in a Nigerian society where parents would prefer that their kids are involved in seemingly prestigious careers rather than entertainment. But Kiki stuck to her guns saying she has always been interested in social activities.
She opened up on this recently. According to The Nation, she said: “People think I’m crazy but acting is what I love to do. “I was always interested in social activities, stage performances, debates, etc.
I thought it was something I liked. I was a literature in English prize winner at some point, after I was done with medicine; I realized I still had love for performing. I practiced medicine for a while, but the love for acting prevailed.”
She played the character of Lovette in the popular television series Lekki Wives, Footprints and The Valley Between as well as her appearance in the movie Married But Living Single, two projects that have helped launched her acting career.
Nkiruka Omeili is the second child in a family of four kids. She is from Anambra in the eastern part of Nigeria. She began making appearances in stage plays through her early years and even as a medical student she found her way into the drama team where she further polished her acting.
Besides movies and stage plays, she is also a compere and has hosted numerous events from the entertainment industry to the corporate world.
In late 2015, sometime in October, her role in the movie Sting won at the Global Icons Academy Awards in the USA for Best Supporting Actress.
