Replying questions being thrown to her by newsmen, while crying at the Police Command Headquarters in Bauchi, Juliana James, an indigene of Shendan LGA of Plateau State disclosed why she threw her new born baby into a soakaway pit.

According to the Mother of 6, having another baby coupled with the hardship she was passing through with her family wasn't the best option for her at the moment.

“Things are hard. My husband has no job. He had an accident three months ago he is still in the hospital ago and the situation became worse for us. We don’t see food
to eat. We were dying of starvation.

I delivered at home and threw the baby in the toilet because I don’t know how we are going to take care of it. I didn’t tell my husband.”

The incident reportedly happened in Guru village in outskirt of Bauchi, Bauchi State, where Juliana lives with her five girls and a boy in a one room apartment. However what she did in the secret, was busted after the cries of the baby attracted neighbours, who rushed the one day old baby to the Abubakar Tafawa University Teaching Hospital for medical attention, nearly 12 hours later.

Punchng claims that a source claimed the suspect showed some signs of depression before committing the crime; “She was a hardworking mother who fried bean-cake in the neighborhood but for some time now, during her pregnancy, she had not been coming out. May be the recession took it’s toll on her" the source said.
