If the decision of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Kogi East Senatorial District is anything to go by, the first son of the late Abubakar Audu, Mohammed Audu will replace his father as the flag-bearer of the party in the inconclusive governorship election in the state.

The leaders who made their decision known in the Kogi state capital, Lokoja today, November 26, after deliberations, stated that they chose Mohammed after due consultations.

Spokesman of the group, Daniel Isah, who is the vice chairman of APC in the senatorial district, said they had resolved and were determined to back Mohammed to replace his father.

According to Isah, the leaders will support Mohammed if the National Working Committee of the APC orders fresh primaries.

Isah also expressed the appreciation of the leaders to the Independent National Electoral Commission and the national leadership of the APC for what he said is the opportunity given to them to find a replacement for the late Audu.

He appealed to the national leadership of the APC to give their decision utmost consideration and approval in the overall interest of the party and the state.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, present at the meeting were big wigs in the party like Lincho Ocheje, Hassan Omale, Benjamin Ikhani, Emmanuel Dangana, among others.

Already, the campaign organisation of the late Audu had already been lobbying to get Mohammed to replace his dad as the party’s candidate.

Meanwhile, a group simply called ”Kogi Youths” has gone ahead and designed a poster for the campaing of Mohammed. See the poster below:

Late Abubakar Audu, died on Sunday, November 22 and was buried in his hometown in Ogbonicha in Ofu local government area of Kogi state on Monday, November 23 amidst tears and wailings of thousand of his supporters who trooped to his country home to witness the funeral.

Recall that INEC asked the APC to fill the vacuum created by the death of its candidate in order to continue with the supplementary election.

The APC had also announced that it would conduct fresh primaries to determine a replacement for its late candidate, Audu.
