On Friday morning, community youths attacked and looted the Delta City Mall (popularly called Delta Shoprite) at Effurun Roundabout in Warri, Delta state. They vandalised properties and carted away valuable goods.

According to eyewitnesses, the security at the Delta mall fled when they saw the number of youths and the police only arrived the scene after the havoc had been done.

The irony is there is an army barracks, as well as Naval base very close to the mall known as the London of Deltans, yet the attack went on for hours without any security intervention. Rather, the police showed up after the chaos had died down.

The shops in the mall have remained close and the premises is quiet.
