In Abeokuta, Ogun State, a group of young students decided to engage in money rituals and it led to the bizarre death of one of them named Raimi Fatai.

Fatai and three other classmates were led to a herbalist’s den by their classmates, the son of a herbalist, who had copied out his father’s money ritual process. A source close to the students said that they consulted the herbalist to seek protection charms and ‘traditional knowledge enhancer.’

The herbalist’s son conducted the money ritual process as he had seen his father do, and administered liquid substances which he and his classmates drank. Vanguard reports that Fatai fell ill and two days later, he died, while one of his classmates is currently in an Abeokuta hospital where he is critically ill.

Sources close to the family told Vanguard that Fatai was buried according to Muslim rites.

Following the shocking incident, the school Principal called for a Parents-Teachers meeting and informed the parents of the developments and also used that occasion to dismiss other students who joined in the ritual process so as to prevent more students from being influenced.

The principal stressed that the incident occurred outside the premises of the school during the Valentine period, so there was little the school authorities could do about it.

The Ogun State Police Public Relation Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi says the case is still under investigation, adding that there are conflicting sides to the story.
