There are indications that the Lagos state government has closed the popular Ladipo market in Lagos. The reason for closing the market is not unconnected to the uprising in the market caused by clashes between the traders and security operatives which led to the death of a trader after some of the protesters allegedly fired gun shots.

The Sun reports that armed security men are the market to quell any crisis that might occour. The market that is mostly dominated by Igbos selling spare parts and electronics witnessed a protest a day ago by the traders over alleged extortion by One Monday Ijoba employed by the state government to collect fees from the traders.

A similar incident happened some days ago when traders from the Bakassi section of the Ladipo auto parts market clashed with a contractor engaged by Mushin local government leading to the death of three persons and 20 persons injured.
