
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari hosted some Nigerian women and wives of heads of diplomatic missions in Nigeria to a cocktail at the presidential villa in Abuja, at the weekend.
According to her, the occasion was to enable her to interact with the wives of heads of mission on issues of mutual benefits.
Aisha decried poor access to health care services which she identified as one of the biggest challenges facing women and children in Nigeria, Daily Trust reports.
She told the women that they had a special role to play in promoting social and cultural images of their respective countries.

The wife of the president pledged to support all their initiatives and activities aimed at promoting “beneficial relationships” between Nigeria and their countries.
She noted that her initiative, “Future Assured,” was designed to advocate for the improvement and promotion of the health of the vulnerable group in the country.

Also speaking, the wife of the vice president, Dolapo Osinbajo, said the occasion was an opportunity for the wives and the wife of the president to interact and explore areas of collaboration between Nigeria and their various countries. Speaking on behalf of other wives of heads of Mission, Elza Lima, wife of the Brazilian envoy said Aisha’s initiative would strengthen relations between Nigeria and their countries.

She commended Aisha for initiating the event, while expressing optimism that the occasion would go a long way in strengthening the relationship among the wives of heads of mission in the country.
Last week, the First Lady said that she will focus on projects that is geared towards promoting the health and well-being of women and girls in internally displaced (IDP) camps across the country. She disclosed this at the first Daily Trust women summit and exhibition held in Abuja on Thursday, March 10.
