Solomon Arase, the inspector general of police, has given tips to help Nigerians stay safe and security-conscious especially within the coming Easter celebrations.

Arase spoke on Thursday, March 17, at a mega town hall meeting with stakeholders at the Redemption Camp in Ogun state.

The programme titled, “Security Awareness and Personal Workplace Safety”, was organised by the Ogun state branch of the police community relations committee.

Arase, while commending the police and community members for their roles in the rescue of three abducted pupils of the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu, Lagos, appealed to Nigerians to employ only Nigerian domestic help.

Represented by the assistant inspector general of police, Zone 2, Mr Bala Hassan, he noted: “We do not have anything against people from Ghana or Cotonou but if you want to employ domestic workers, ensure that they are Nigerians so that when they escape, you know where to find him or her.

“You can even meet with your Divisional Police Officer to know whether he or she had committed a crime elsewhere before you employ one.” The police chief added that: “People will travel for the Easter. It is not a must you get to your destination on the same day.

When night falls, you can park your car and sleep in a hotel. “Easter is like Christmas and I know Nigerians like gifts. Do not open your door to anybody that brings a hamper. It could contain an explosive device. “Do not give criminals opportunities.

Do not leave a ladder close to your residence. “Children will also visit recreational places. Parents should watch over them so that they will not be tricked with ice creams.” Meanwhile, in a move to ensure terrorism in the country is laid to rest, the Nigeria police force will on Friday, March 18, inaugurate the first phase of the deployment of police officers in liberated communities in the northeast.

According to Arase, over 6,000 personnel of the force will be deployed in communities in the northeast to restore police primacy and civil authority.
