An appeal has gone to Federal Government to use tourism as a veritable tool for national development. The National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples’ Congress Otunba Gani Adams made the appeal at the fifth edition of Eledumare Festival held in Iganmu area of Lagos.
Otunba Adams suggested that with the current economic situation, all historical monuments in the country should be renovated and new ones built where necessary to drive home the buy Nigerian to build the Naira policy.
The culture advocate noted that the country could be a tourism destination of global recognition if the government could tap into the human and material tourism potentials that abound in various part of the country.
Otunba Adams also commended the effort of the south-west governors who made the Yoruba language compulsory in public and private schools in their various states. The guest speaker, Dr (Mrs) Aboderin Shonibare of the Lagos State University maintained that Nigerians irrespective of creed, religion or ethnic must unite.
She urged every other tribes and ethnics to emulate Otunba Gani Adams by starting Eledumare Festival as a way of honouring and praising God. She also commended Otunba Gani and members of Oodua People’s Congress for standing firm in reviving the dead Yoruba cultural values. She stated further that whoever that has the fear of God and believe in God as Otunba Gani Adams will always be prosper in whatever the person embark on.
High Chief Yusuf Ayoola, Bashorun of Oyo who attended the event as the representative of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi stated that the entire Yoruba land should always appreciate and commend Otunba Gani Adams for his consistency and steadfastness in the area of cultural promotions so that he can do more. He prayed for him and promised his continous supports for Otunba Gani Adams and the Olokun Festival Foundation.
The event which witnessed the presence of Eze n digbo of Ibeju Lekki, Ojo, FESTAC, Eti Osa and Seriki Hausa of FESTAC and Chairman, Kingmakers of Arewa Council of Lagos, Seriki Hausa Igando, Mushin and Amuwo Odofin respectively.
They all praised Otunba Gani Adams for bringing peace, unity and tranquility among the various ethnic in Yoruba land and in Nigeria through the promotion of domestic tourism and cultural promotions. Yoruba traditional rulers were not left out as they also commended Otunba Gani Adams for celebrating Almighty God annual for 21-Day with different interesting programmes.
