A police man slumped and died at Berger roundabout, Abuja, while waiting to board a vehicle to Nyanya on Monday morning.
Witnesses said the man was taken to the popular roundabout on a motorcycle with another police officer whom they identified as his brother.
They said the two policemen were in mufti and had wanted to board a long bus to their destination but couldn’t as the vehicle was already filled to capacity.
“It was while they were waiting for another vehicle that he slumped and was jerking before he later died. The corpse was laid at the back of a newspaper stand,” one of the bus drivers told City News.
The driver, who would not want to be named, said the other policeman went and mobilised his colleagues in three police vans who later evacuated the corpse.
Another witness, a physically challenged petty trader said the situation could have tensed if a police man did not witness the incident.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Utako Police Station, CSP Nwankeneme Eze, said the man was an officer with the command and had closed from his post around Berger on his way to Nyanya when the incident happened.
He said until his death, the officer was seen to be healthy by his colleagues. He could not give details of what happened to the corpse as he referred our reporters to the FCT Police Command.
When contacted, the FCT Police Command spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah said he was not aware of the incident.
