Human remains examined at a Cairo morgue indicate an explosion plunged EgyptAir Flight 804 into the Mediterranean Sea, according to Egyptian forensic officials.

Investigators sifting through 80 pieces found floating in the crash site are small, suggesting a blast tore through the doomed flight transporting 66 passengers from Paris to Cairo early Thursday.

“There isn’t even a whole body part, like an arm of a head,” said an forensics official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

He sorted through the remains at a Cairo morgue and believes “the logical explanation is that it was an explosion” that took down the Airbus A320 as it entered Egyptian airspace.
