President Muhammadu Buhari will be represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on a two-day official visit to Lagos State today after the Presidency late yesterday announced a postponement of Buhari’s visit due to what it called “scheduling difficulties.”
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement last night.
Buhari was earlier scheduled to arrive Lagos today for the inauguration of several projects by the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Our correspondent, who was among the president’s advance team, reports that all had been set for the president’s much-publicised visit before the postponement.
At about 5.00pm yesterday, protocol officials of both the Presidency and the Lagos State government were busy fine-tuning arrangements for the visit. Lagos State officials were working at the Tafawa Balewa Square in preparation for the visit. Shehu however said the president would be represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
According to the presidential spokesman, Osinbajo will commission a few projects while the president will inaugurate the rest after Ramadan.
He said: “The president is faced with scheduling difficulties and that is the reason for the postponement of the visit. He needs more time for Lagos and Edo which had earlier been stepped down. As a result of this, the visit has been scaled down and he is being represented by His Excellency, the Vice President who is going to Lagos to commission a few projects, leaving the rest for Mr President. The president will undertake these visits after the Ramadan.”
The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, later confirmed the development in a statement last night.
