Tatyana Allen glanced around for a weapon when she got into a fight with her boyfriend on Daytona Beach around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Unable to find a suitable weapon, the 18-year-old picked up her 6-month-old baby and used it to beat her boyfriend.
The first-time mother and her boyfriend were on the beach celebrating the 4th of July holiday when they got into it.
Police said at least 20 people saw what happened and one witness immediately called 911.
"She took the baby by his body, and hit the baby against the man and then threw the baby down," said a witness on the phone with 911.
"The baby was screaming. It was face down in the sand. It can't hold its head up by itself, that's how little it was."
Beach patrol officers broke up the fight.
However, Allen also called 911 and claimed it was her boyfriend who hit her and never mentioned her son, who cried in the background.
"I'm with my baby daddy and he had pushed me and hitting on me, and I need to you to come pick him up," said Allen.
The infant was evaluated at a local hospital for minor injuries and is expected to be okay, according to Click Orlando.
Allen, of Orange County, faces charges of aggravated battery and infliction of physical and mental injury to a child.
She is being held without bail, according to Click Orlando, and a judge also ordered Allen to not have any contact with her child.
