Shocking photos of malnourished and starving children who escaped Boko Haram attacks have left many in despair.
Children who escaped Boko Haram's Islamic insurgency now are dying of starvation in refugee camps in northeastern Nigeria's largest city as the government investigates the theft of food aid by officials, AFP reports.
According to the report, hungry refugees have staged daily protests over the past week after it was revealed that officials were stealing food aid meant for the Internally Displaced persons.
AFP reports that women blocked the main highway linking Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, to Kano city for five hours, shouting that their children are starving and they have no drinking water as temperatures soar above 40 degrees (104 Fahrenheit).
Speaking of the incident, Doctors without Borders spokeswoman Shaista Aziz said between 10 and 25 percent of children in a 110-bed feeding center are dying. she revealed further that most of the dying are from refugee camps.
The pictures showing dozens of babies and children with matchstick limbs and protruding rib cages fill the tents of the feeding center as reported by AFP. The pictures have left many people in deep shock.
