Background
I am from Anambra State, but I grew up in Warri, Delta State. I had a disciplined upbringing and I am the eldest child. The values instilled in me while growing up, contributed to who I am today.
Education
I attended Montessori Nursery and Primary School, Warri, for my primary education. I then proceeded to Federal Government College, Warri, for my secondary education. I also attended the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, where I bagged an Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication, and a Higher National Diploma in Public Administration.
Acting
Acting wasn’t my dream career. However, my teachers in school always wanted me to participate in plays and carols. I was that little girl who always represented the school at social events. It was not something I wanted, and I was not always eager to do it.
Nollywood
My Nollywood journey began in 2003 during my Industrial Training year at the polytechnic. I didn’t want a white-collar job, so I decided to attend a movie audition for the fun of it and not because I wanted to become a household name. When I got to the audition venue, the producers of the movie wanted a new face to play the female lead role. They saw something in me that I didn’t see, and they insisted that I play the role even though I wasn’t ready for it since I was just there to pass time. Somehow, they made me believe in myself and the rest is history.
The ‘Amaco brothers’ were the ones who gave me my first big opportunity in Nollywood. They believed in me even though I was naive and new in the game. They gave me the chance to prove myself to the world. Ifeanyi Azodo was the director of the movie, and I acted alongside Pete Edochie, Jim Iyke and a host of other stars I used to watch on television then.
Breakthrough
My first movie, Arrested by Love, thrust me into the limelight. It’s still very dear to my heart. However, I cannot forget my first time in front of the camera. As a matter of fact, I swore never to act again if I survived that ordeal, but here I am today.
Challenges
Every movie comes with its own challenges. For every script that I get, I must pretend to be who I am not and do so convincingly. I enjoy every set I am on because I get to meet new people all the time.
Memorable experiences
It’s always a different and exciting experience with everyone that I have worked with. I always try to create and have a good relationship with my co-actors; that way, you can create magic and achieve the aim of making a good movie. I still look forward to the day my dream of working with RMD will come to pass. I admire everything about him as an actor, and I believe he is a true thespian.
Role models
I have always looked up to Joke Silva and Liz Benson; they are still very relevant and doing great even after many years of being in the industry.
Nudity
That is something I can’t do. I don’t have a problem with the ones that are bold and daring enough to do it, but it’s a no-go area for me. I don’t think it’s something I will ever do, no matter the benefits.
Kcee
I would rather not talk about that. We are both in different happy places in our lives, and that’s all that matters.
Scandals
A lot of hurtful and untrue things have been said about me in the media, but I have refused to dwell on them. Some of these comments hurt because more often than not, people believe these false stories. However, I have learnt not to let the stories weigh me down because they never define who I am. It is the price I have to pay for being in the limelight.
Fashion
I love to look good and comfortable in whatever I wear. I remember while growing up, my parents made sure I always stood out; I guess they inculcated that habit in me. Comfort and confidence are necessary in expressing one’s style. I cannot leave home without my sunglasses and lip gloss. I don’t like to harmonise my outfits and accessories. Instead, I like to play with colours without going overboard with them.
New Year’s resolutions
I pray to be bigger and better than I am now. I have been on a voyage of self-discovery and personal growth, and that journey continues in 2017.
