Trump's speech vows to “rebuild our country and restore its promise.” In his opening remarks Trump thanks ex-Presidents Carter, Clinton, Bush, Obama, “fellow Americans and people of the world.”
He says the American people have now joined a great effort to “rebuild our country and restore its promise”.
“Together we will determine the course of America and the world for many many years to come”.
He says there will be “hardships” and challenges “but we will get the job done”.
“We are transferring power from Washington DC and giving it to you, the people,” he says.
“For too long,” he says, “Washington flourished but the people did not share in its wealth.
“Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs.”
He adds: “That all changes starting right here and right now. Because this moment is your moment - it belongs to you.
“It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America.”
Donald Trump has taken the oath of office and is now the President of the United States.
“I Donald John Trump do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. So help me God.”
He waves to the crowd as the marching band plays and the 21-gun salute sounds.
Donald Trump is the Commander in Chief. He has the nuclear codes. He is arguably the most powerful man in the world.
