A 41-year-old Nigerian woman identified as Toyin Ogundipe, has been delivered of a baby boy mid-air while on board an Air France flight about 35,000 feet above sea level, en-route to New York.
The mother, who is reportedly resident in the United Kingdom had gone into labour a week earlier than her delivery date. She was reported to have been in childbirth pains and having contractions about 10 minutes apart.
The woman wouldn’t have been on the flight if she had the premonition she would be due ealier than expected. The baby, who was named Jake, was delivered after a 30-minute labour, it was reported.

A second-year urology resident, Dr. Sij Hemal, who was also a passenger in the plane, helped with the delivery of the baby half-way through an eight-hour flight from Paris to New York.
Dr. Hemal, who spoke to reporters after their flight, said he was just glad everything went smoothly and was relieved it all happened before he had any champagne.

He said, “We’re trained to stay calm and think clearly in emergency situations. I just tried to think ahead to what might go wrong and come up with a creative solution.”
The woman looks so excited and she was spotted immediately breast-feeding her baby after the delivery.
In her words:
“I feel so excited and elated to be alive as I never thought i was going to make it through the delivery when I began to feel contraptions. I consider myself so lucky to have Dr Hemal on board and myself and my baby will be for ever grateful to him”
She also went further to thank the crew on board
“I will also like to thank every member of the crew on the flight that assisted in one way or the other. They are all great people and I also want to thank Air France for their hospitality and care”
The duo of the mother and baby were admitted into the hospital immediately the flight landed at its destination.
