A lot of people face a big challenge when trying to lose weight. They diet and exercise but the extra weight refuses to budge.
If this sounds like you, then you might be sabotaging you weight loss goals by having these bad eating habits below.
1. Distracted eating: Eating while watching TV, reading a book, gisting, etc is a very bad idea. When you are eating while being distracted with something else, you tend to eat so much more. You might even find that you shock yourself when you actually think about you have been eating because you were so distracted, you don’t even notice. If you form a habit of always eating when watching TV, etc, you will find that you mostly go for fatty foods.
2. Skipping breakfast: So, you just started a new diet and you think the first thing to do is skip breakfast? Wrong. Skipping breakfast makes you hungrier during the course of the day and makes it more likely that you will end up having a very huge meal for lunch.
3. Avoiding fruits: Fruits are a very important aspect of weight loss. Fruits are healthy ways to snack and energise yourself. Do not ignore them when you are on a diet.
4. Going sugar-free: You know all those sugar -free drinks, gums, sweets, etc? Well, let me let you in on a secret, they are never actually sugar-free. They simply replaced one form of sugar for another. If you taste ‘sweetness’ in something, then it is likely a form of sugar. Simply do away with sodas and sweets to be on the safe side.
5. Bad snacking habits: When you are hungry and you feel like snacking, do you reach for a cookie? Well, this might be what is causing you to retain the weight. You might think you had just one piece and that it won’t count, but it absolutely will. Snack on fruits or celeries like carrots.
6. Eating too late: Experts have advised that eating past 7pm is not healthy, especially for someone who wants to lose weight. Foods eaten too close to bedtime will not have the time to digest and since your metabolism rate is at its lowest in the evenings, your body will not burn the fat as well.
7. Not drinking enough: Water, I mean. To keep your body burning fat and get rid of harmful toxins, you absolutely have to drink water. Doctors advise at least 8 glasses of water per day.
8. Eating more than you need: The whole point of eating is to provide yourself with nutrient, not eating to be full. Do you know that the fact that you feel full means you have overdone it? This basically means your body has had what it needs long before you get that ‘full’ feeling, so those extra spoonfuls are useless and they only convert to fat in your body.
9. Eating more than you exercise: Okay, you are getting some exercise, but are you eating way too much more than you are active? If you only exercise for 5 to 10 minutes per day and you munch on food all day long, this will only cause you to keep gaining weight.
10. Starving yourself: Another terrible action by desperate people who want to lose weight in a short time. The bad thing about this is that your body fights back against starvation by storing more fat, so avoid this. Also, if you do this and actually succeed, when you do go back to eating, you will find that you gain all the weight back (or even more) within a very short time, which can be very demoralizing. Simply eating moderately and exercising is all you need for a gradual, lasting weight loss.
