The Nigerian Army has issued a 24 hour ultimatum to persons engaged in illegal form of sales of petroleum products within Jos and Bukuru area of Plateau state to dispose them or face compulsory seizure of their petrol.
According to The New Telegraph, the order was given by the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Plateau state, code name Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).
In a statement issued by OPSH media and information officer, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, the resolution was taken at the end of heads of security agencies meeting, held at the headquarters of OPSH and had resolved that compulsory seizure would commence by security operatives at the expiration of the ultimatum.
Meanwhile, the federal government has disclosed that it can’t end fuel scarcity now, saying that it may continue for several more months.
Ibe Kachikwu, the petroleum minister, said that oil produced in the refineries would not be sold but kept in a “strategic reserve”.
The minister addressed reporters after the meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
