While other team members are trying their best to focus on the business at hand, a Brazilian diver, Ingrid Oliveira, 20, kicked out her teammate from their shared room at the Olympics Village so that she could have marathon sex with another Brazilian Olympian, canoeist Pedro Goncalves.
This led to a row, which has resulted in both ladies refusing to compete with each other.
South American media reports carried claims the pair enjoyed a "marathon night of sex" which saw Oliveira’s teammate Giovanna Pedroso, 17, kicked out of the room.
The pair ended up finishing last in the women’s 10-metre synchronised diving.
Goncalves, the man in the middle of all the brouhaha was questioned by GloboEsporte on the claims that he spent the night with the diver and he responded
"My personal life, I do not speak about."
Athletes in the Olympic Village have been given some of the 450,000 condoms distributed throughout the tournament by authorities.
