Award winning Nollywood actress Tamara Eteimo in an interview with Punch Spice talks about her life as an actress, dealing with the loss of her brother and rise to fame. Enjoy!
Background
I am from Bayelsa State but I was raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. I am the fourth child and I have five siblings. I studied Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt. I relocated to Lagos after I graduated from the university, to launch a career in acting. I registered with the Actors Guild of Nigeria and Delyork International for a course in screen acting .
Nollywood
I attended several script readings organised by Emem Isong, before I clinched a role in an astonishing manner. While I was reading some scripts, an actress was required to play a role in another production, which was ongoing at the time.I was recommended for the role and that was how I clinched a role in the movie, Mrs. Somebody. I starred alongside Uche Jombo, Bobby Obodo and a host of other talented actors. I missed clinching the lead character in one of my most popular roles, Itohan (Super Story) by a hair’s breadth.
I was the last person to be auditioned because I arrived the venue late from Abuja, after filming DRY by Stephanie Linus.

Losing my brother
My brother, Stanley Eteimo, was killed in Cyprus and the case was swept under the carpet by the Cypriot authorities. They said he committed suicide but we know that wasn’t what happened. He was a student of Girne American University in Cyprus and a music producer when he died. He never made it back home after organising a show in Cyprus. His body was discovered on the beach the following day. We were told that he had an argument with a guy over a girl. The guy allegedly threatened him and the next day, my brother was found dead. We wrote to the Cyprian Embassy and the Bayelsa State Government but nothing was done about it. It was a experience but my family has decided to let it go.
Personality
My modest upbringing has kept me composed. I will never engage in any awkward activity because I want to be famous. I can never take up inappropriate roles even if the offer is mouthwatering.
Fame
Acting has earned me fame and goodwill. I have become a household name because of the roles I have played in movies. I cannot go anywhere without been recognised. I am grateful to God for blessing me with several talents and I also appreciate my fans because without their support, I won’t be where I am.
Greatest Asset
What I consider my greatest asset is the gift of acting that God has blessed me with. This is why I can never quit acting for anything in the world.
